Some commentary on last night's races
.
.
Friends, I really have to laugh at myself or kick myself in the butt, one or the other. Maybe you have done it yourself. You know what I mean, spending all kinds of time on a race and then not even betting it because something is bothering you about it. Well, it happened to me last night at the Meadowlands and it was in race number 8. Check out my picks for that race in my my last post here:

Before I comment on that race however, here are the races that I would have won if I had bet my system, using either the 14 dollar or the 24 dollar method. I should tell you that it was a fairly erratic night and it really fell apart later on. But, there were some gains to be made and they happened before the real breakdown.

Race 3. My selections for this race were: 7-4-3-2-9. Using my system and betting the standard 14 dollars would have made you a winner in this race. The bets would look like this:
.
Box: ( 7-4-3 ) ( six dollars )
Key: 2/7-4 ( two dollars )
7/4-2 ( two dollars )
9/7-4 ( two dollars )
7/4-9 ( two dollars )
.
The results for this race were: 2-7-4 and the two dollar triactor paid $133.00. You would of course only receive half of this amount by betting one dollar triactors.
.
Race 6. I did not win this race, but I had the top five horses that could have netted you a win if you had boxed them for sixty dollars. My top five horses in order of preference were: 3-5-7-4-1. Neither my 14 dollar or 24 dollar method would have won this race. The 24 dollar method only boxes the first four horses. But, if you had spent 60 dollars ( one dollar triactor bets ) and boxed these five horses you would have won the triactor. The winning horses were in order: 4-1-3-5. The 2 dollar triactor paid: $207.40. So, for one dollar you would have received half of that prize. Is it worth 60 dollars to you to win just over a hundred dollars? Well, that is not exactly my idea of a good time, spending sixty dollars a race, that is.
.
Race 7. This is a very interesting race which I wanted to win, but did not. I spent a lot of time on it as there was a scratch in the race. My original picks were: 2-4-3-7-6 ( see the link above for my picks yesterday ). Horse number 2 was scratched and this affected the whole system. I came up with five new numbers for my horses in order of preference. They were: 4-3-5-7-9. I thought this was an interesting race, but I did not bet the 24 dollar system. I only bet the 14 dollar variety, with the optional bet of 4/3-9-5 hoping to win the triactor two times. But, I won nothing of course. However, if you are one of the big spending kind of people then you would have won the triactor and even the superfector by boxing my top five horses. The winning combination was: 3-7-5-9. As you can see I picked all of these horses via my system. The two dollar triactor paid: $333.20.
.
Race 8. This is the heart breaker race friends and the reason I decided to do this post today. I did not even bet this race. Why? Because I was afraid of three threats to the system. They are all horses coming off qualifiers and these kinds of horses frighten me to death. You just do not know what they are going to do. Sometimes you can just leave them out because they are meaningless threats, but it seems like when you do leave them out one of them comes in and ruins your system. That is why I did not bet the race; they all looked like honest threats to the system. However, it bears repeating that I have seen this madness before. You fear something that is not real. They system is strong even in the face of all of this adversity. Here are my picks from yesterday's handicapping regarding this race. 1-3-4-5-8. The really sad thing about this race friends is that I would have won it for my standard 14 dollar bet. These would be the bets if I was betting just 14 dollars:
.
Box ( 1-3-4 )
.
Key: 5/1-3, 1/3-5, 8/1-3, and 1/3-8.
.
The winning combination was: 8-3-1 and it paid for two dollars: $698.00.
.
Can you feel my frustration friends? The kicker is that the 8 horse was the favourite on the program, but the horse was not bet as a favourite. The qualifying horses mentioned above were all running for bigger money and this fact must have influenced a lot of people and their betting behaviour. I was certainly affected as you can see. So, what do you do? Stick to your guns or make a judgement call? Live and learn eh?
